Your time at Furvaria

Welcome to your next Furry convention!

Going to a new convention for the first time can feel a little uncertain. Even if you’ve been to other events before, every Furry convention has its own DNA. That diversity and creativity is what makes our Fandom events so exciting to explore.

Furvaria is meant to be a relaxed place to arrive, settle in, and enjoy the weekend at your own pace.

You do not need a Fursuit, and you do not need to know anyone already to have a good time here. Some people come for the full weekend, some focus on the social side, and others just want to explore, unwind, and see what the event is like.

Most of the convention takes place in attendee-only event areas, so once you are checked in, the weekend has a more self-contained and community-focused feel. The only public part of the venue is the Land-Steakhaus Restaurant at the front by the street.

Whether this is your first furry convention or just your first time at Furvaria, this guide will help you with the practical side of your visit.

How to make the best out of your Furvaria experience

A little planning goes a long way and makes arriving at Furvaria much more relaxed.

Start with the basics: get your ticket, decide where you want to stay, and check how you will get to the venue. It is worth looking at your accommodation options early, especially if you are deciding between camping and other nearby stays.

It is also a good idea to read the most important event information before the weekend begins. That includes things like arrival details, what to bring, and the basic rules of the event. You do not need to memorize everything, but having a rough idea of how your trip and arrival will work will make the first day much easier.

If this is your first time at Furvaria, focus on the practical essentials first: ticket, accommodation, travel, and a quick look at the rules. Once those are sorted, you can look forward to the fun part.

Don’t pressure yourself to figure everything out at once. The best first step is simply to arrive, look for the check-in desk, and give yourself a little time to get comfortable with the space.

Check-in: Badge and pre-order pickups

After arriving at the venue, follow the signs to the check-in area to collect your badge. Since Furvaria is age-restricted, make sure you bring a valid photo ID. Having your QR ticket code (or at least the alphanumerical order code) ready also help speed things up. Note that your pre-ordered items and most of the physical sponsor goodies will be handed out separately to keep queues short for everyone.

Once you are checked in, take a moment before jumping into the weekend. Find the Infodesk, have a quick look at the venue map, and identify the places you are most likely to need later — such as the restaurant, the main event areas, and the Fursuit Lounge if you plan to use it.

Accommodation

If you are staying onsite, it also helps to sort out your camping setup early, so you can settle in before the program pulls you in different directions. Don’t miss the check-in times especially if you’re staying in a hotel!

You do not have to do Furvaria “in a specific way” to enjoy it. The weekend usually works best when you leave yourself room to explore, take breaks, and settle into the atmosphere as you go.

Some parts of the convention are more structured, like programming and scheduled activities. Others are much more casual: meeting people, browsing the Dealers’ Den, spending time in the chill-out areas, or simply enjoying the venue with friends.

If this is your first time, try not to pressure yourself into seeing everything. Pick a few things that interest you, leave some space in between, and let the rest of the weekend happen naturally.

Convention Spaces

Because Furvaria combines indoor and outdoor spaces, the weekend can feel more open and flexible than a convention that happens entirely inside a hotel or congress center. It is easy to move between busier activities, quieter moments, and social time throughout the day.

There are also different kinds of spaces depending on what you need. The chill-out areas are meant for relaxed socializing, while the Quiet Area gives you somewhere to step back and wind down if things start to feel a bit much.

To make the weekend easier, Furvaria also provides attendee services such as the Infodesk if you need help and the Fursuit Lounge if you need a place to cool down or rest while suiting.

Food

The food corner in the convention area gives you an easy option without pulling you too far away from the event. If you want to slow down a little more, the Land-Steakhaus Restaurant at the front of the venue offers a more substantial sit-down meal.

The easiest way to have a good time at Furvaria is to be respectful of the people around you and realistic about your own energy.

Not everyone comes to the convention for the same reason. Some people want to be social all day, some want to focus on programming, and others need quieter moments in between. Give people space, pay attention to boundaries, and do not assume everyone wants the same kind of interaction. A quick ask before taking photos, hugging, or joining a conversation goes a long way.

Also remember that Furvaria is fully made possible by volunteers. We’re happy to help with your inquiries whenever possible, but also please respect our free time when we’re not on duty.

Remember the 6-2-1 Rule

It is just as important to look after yourself during the weekend. Drink water, eat properly, get some sleep, and take breaks when you need them. If things start to feel too loud, crowded, or overwhelming, stepping away for a bit is completely normal. The Quiet Area is there for exactly that reason. Remember the 6-2-1 rule: have at least 6 hours of sleep, 2 full meals and a shower each day.

If you are fursuiting, make use of the Fursuit Lounge and do not push yourself too hard. Cooling down, resting, and taking care of yourself is part of having a good weekend.

Feeling lost?

No worries. If you are unsure about something, need help, or simply feel a little lost, you can always ask at the Infodesk. You do not have to figure everything out on your own.

Still have questions on your mind?

If you still have questions before arriving, the best place to start is the information on our website. Tickets, accommodation, travel details, policies, and the FAQ already cover most of the practical things you may want to know in advance.

If you are still unsure after that, you are also welcome to join the chat group and ask there. That can be a good way to get a quick answer, especially for smaller questions or if you would like to hear from other attendees as well.

And of course, you can always contact us directly before the event. It is completely normal to have a few open questions, especially if this is your first time at Furvaria.

If something is unclear once you are on site, please do not hesitate to ask right away in person. Most of the staff members are busy during the convention; so e-mail and chat responses may be even delayed until after the end of Furvaria. The easiest place to go is the Infodesk, where you can get help with orientation, general questions, and practical information during the weekend.

It is always better to ask during the convention rather than afterwards. Once the weekend is over, the immediate context is often gone, and small issues or open questions are much harder to sort out than they are in the moment.

If you are feeling lost, unsure where to go next, or just need a quick answer, asking on site is usually the fastest and easiest solution.
